    1. We need a new mayor and council. Crime is out of control. I was at Mojo’s the other night for a beer and the A.A.’s were out of control. Then some idiot pulls out a gun and shot someone. It’s not safe after dark anymore.

  1. If the SPD and SBY code compliance is so committed to the broken window theory of prospective policing why don’t they start enforcing no parking in the fire lanes at local shopping centers, drug stores and groceries?

Doesn’t that guy understand that if he has a clear plan, a consistent message and a concise, competent and capable team, he wouldn’t need to keep backtracking, ducking and dodging. Politics as usual – Wicomico style – ineffective but often sadly, entertaining.

  3. Jersey Boys, The Sound of Music Canceled

Performances of The Sound of Music and Jersey Boys at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center have officially been canceled. The Sound of Music had been scheduled for May 13, and Jersey Boys was postponed on March 28 and had not yet been rescheduled.

    Neither show will be rescheduled.

The cancellations are the result of an April 30 letter received from NETworks, the management company of both shows, which listed demands of Wicomico County in a short timeframe and included concerns about the safety of the venue.

In a statement of response, Wicomico County representatives rejected the notion of a safety issue at the building and cited NETworks’ demands as not necessary or appropriate.

“Since 2009, the County has partnered with Broadway in Salisbury and successfully and safely produced 47 shows at the Civic Center,” explained Steve Miller, Director of Recreation, Parks & Tourism. “The notion that the building is unsafe is simply not true.”

Adam Epstein, CEO of innovation arts and entertainment, the producers of Broadway in Salisbury, said “We have complete confidence in the safety of the WY&CC to host Broadway shows and other programming, and we will continue to bring shows to the venue as we have for over a decade.”

Three days after the Jersey Boys cancellation on March 28, the venue successfully hosted a concert for over 3,000 people. In April, the Civic Center hosted Kelsea Ballerini’s Miss Me More Tour and PJ Masks Live! “Save the Day” without incident, as well as many other events for thousands of guests.

    1. I wonder how many shows since nearly all the stage crew left because of the tier 3 child sex offender? Nearly all the qualified people, most notably the Riggers, aren’t invited nowadays. I hear there’s typically 3 or more things dropped from the ceiling every show loading in or out. That was never the case before the mass exodus. Thank your county executive, as anyone who knew about the aforementioned individual was forced out one way or the other.

  4. Bob Culver Wicomico County Executive
    4 hrs ·
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MAY 7, 2019
    MARDELA HIGH/MIDDLE SCHOOL

Salisbury, MD … The purpose of this communication is to clarify my stance on the construction of a new high/middle school in Mardela Springs. There is no doubt in my mind that Mardela, Hebron, Sharptown, and the west side of Wicomico County deserve a school that not only continues to have some of the best educators in the County but also have one of the finest facilities. The recent Mardela track and field upgrades are just the beginning for Mardela.

As your County Executive, I have made it a top priority to invest in the infrastructure of our educational facilities. As you likely are aware, I have funded the completion of Bennett High School, the construction of Bennett Middle, along with a new West Salisbury School. I have committed to the building of a new school for Beaver Run and it is in the planning stages. We are set to borrow $7 million in this budget to help begin construction.
This year we have worked with Dr. Hanlin and her staff to fully fund her Imagine 2022 Education Plan. We felt it was important to give her plan the opportunity to make a difference in the educational results for Wicomico County. Combined with the Maintenance of Effort, we are proposing to provide the Board of Education $2 million more than last year. This increase will be a recurring commitment to the Board of Education and we have full faith that they will succeed in their mission.
Considering the potential impending recession in 2020, the newly approved state minimum wage hike, the anticipated very expensive Kirwan Commission funding mandates, along with other financial issues out of our control that will affect the county’s finances, we have to be cautious with our borrowing of bond money and expensive commitments in the years to come. As we get a better understanding of the depth of the recession and financial commitments of the Kirwan Commission, we will have a clearer idea when it is prudent to fund the school in Mardela.

It is my understanding that the Maryland General Assembly is expected to consider a strong Maryland School Construction legislation in January. As always we will be working with our local delegation to encourage this legislation to pass and hopefully make it possible to achieve funding for Mardela High/Middle School.

We have difficult choices to make daily and this was one. It is my hope that this explanation will help with everyone’s understanding what my position is for Mardela High/Middle School.

    1. If the public would look at page 326 of the County Council’s May 7th County Council’s Brief Book then they would know exactly where Bob Culver’s capital improvements priorities lay for the next 5-years. And schools are not his number 1 priority.

      Top 5 5-Year CIP Costs

      SBY Airport – $69,595,000
      WCBOE – $51,115,000
      WOR-WIC – $35,728,276
      PW Engineering – $8,522,924
      PW Solid Waste – $7,535,000

You people on the west side are being taken by Culver, and the County Council, as a bunch of fools. Your not getting any upgrades to Mardela High/ Middle School any time soon. Certainly not within the next 5-years.

      1. Lets not trash the Council because they can’t add things to Culver’s budgets. But they can and should cut the airport’s almost $70million.

      2. @ 10:10 – Do you know what the acronym “WCBOE” stands for?

        With (WCBOE – $51,115,000 &WOR-WIC – $35,728,276) being #2 and 3, respectively I’d say schools and education are a top priority!!!

        Like

      3. WOR-WIC is not the Wicomico County Board of Education so therefore none of the $35,728,276 set aside for capital improvements at WOR-WIC can be used for capital improvements at Mardela High/Middle School. Nice try Bob. You lose.

Some kids on bikes are doing wheelies toward on coming traffic. I hate to say but, sooner or later something bad is going to happen in between south division and food lion. So drivers keep a close eye out for the kids.

    Like

    1. Speaking of ball, Steve needs to go back to raking softball fields just like before Big Nose Bob promoted him to a “department head.” Steve is no leader, never has and never will be. Bob Culver and the County Council screwed up with this appointment. The taxpayers keep paying for his mistakes.

      Like

      1. There are so many appointments he’s made that make absolutely no sense, business or common. I guess we can thank those who voted party lines for the distraction candidate (D) he brought in through a friend. That split the votes his opponent could/should have gotten, so we”re stuck with him, barring a removal.

      2. If you think that appointment is bad, apparently Culver sent out a press release today naming Ennis as finance director. Has she been doing both HR and finance?

ANY, I mean ANY private parking lot for a retial place of business, that is used by the public in general is what the law calls a “quasi-public area”. Traffic, as well as other laws may be enforced! If you see a police car in the WalMart lot, pull up beside it and spin/squeal your tires. Do this especiall y if you license is suspended or revoked, and REALLY do it if you’ve had 5 or 6 beers in the previous hour.
