‘I wanted the mural to speak’: Salisbury’s roots inspire artist as he wraps up project

After starting the project in late May, artist Paul Boyd III is set to finish the mural at the intersection of Church Street and Route 13 very soon.

“I knew I wanted the mural to speak to the younger generation and to be admired by present generations,” said Boyd.

The mural was influenced by local historian Linda Duyer’s book, “Round the Pond,” a history of the Georgetown neighborhood in Salisbury. The novel chronicles the African American neighborhood that once existed in the geographic area where the mural now stands. The five people displayed in the mural were pillars in the Georgetown community

  1. Just what I want to see when I am driving through a town. Makes me check to make sure the doors are lock and to get the Hell out of the Ghetto as soon as possible!

  2. I live in the back of Willards on a farm with a big old barn. In celebration of this mural I will be doing my own with my funds and no taxpayer funds or grant money. Images will consist of Nathan Bedford Forrest, Ronald Regan, Donald Trump and Bob Culver since he still tries to be conservative being surrounded by bleeding heart liberals and backstabbers all around him.

Also Conservatives: I want a mural with the KKK’s founder and other traitors to our nation on my barn!

  3. Just stop it. I am the first to say there is a lot of problems in the black communities and racism is not one of them. That is made up and used as an excuse for many shortcomings they have such as a through the roof illegitimate rate and the almost non existant black family. A family is a positive role model male father and a positive role model female mother both consistently in a child’s life-not in prison or the children being dumped off with grandmothers etc. It’s not a single mother and the government and whatever baby daddy she’s shacked up with for the moment. That being said I think this mural is spectacular and the artist is to be given much credit for his work. He is beyond talented and finally something that adds to the character of Sby.

  4. Hmmmmm
I guess it was only black people that contributed to dabury ? Amazing since 13% of the population is black and 48% are on welfare while Whites are 73% of the population which 12% of them are on welfare so my calculations are whites obviously contribute more and pay for blacks welfare but no murials for whites ? I see got it.
